Chris and Kay's Farm
Scoll's Cottage lies just outside St Agnes in the depths of Cornwall and has been Chris and Kay's small holding for 4 years. They never meant to collect the amount of animals that make up their 15 acre plot of land. As well as producing their own sausages and meat stuffs for themselves and other customers they provide a home to runts and rescue pigs, toothless goats, ducks and chickens that appear round every corner. They are as free-range as you can get!
We were lucky enough to visit on a crispy blue, snowy day. The views across towards the sea and the impending snow clouds were amazing and the patchwork white fields knotted together with wiry, green hedges looked as if they had been laid down from the sky by frosty fingers.
All the animals seemed incredibly happy and tame. You could even get in and have a wrestle with Murphy the boar, who, if tickled in the right place would sing a high-pitched pig melody for our amusement! My favourite characters there were the teenage cows who attempted to eat the contents of my bag and lick my face. Their fur was amazingly soft, especially compared to the pigs who seemed to be covered in winter wire rugs.
I have included some pictures of this wonderful farm where animals roam free and mingle happily. I have been using their duck and chicken eggs since beginning my cake business and seeing as they produce the best sponge I have ever made, I will continue to do so. I hope these images will make you even happier and satisfied when consuming my cake!
The duck eggs that I use in my baking produce a well risen springy sponge and a rich flavour. Because of this I use their duck eggs when making light zesty sponges and chicken eggs for already rich chocolate cakes.
